Rice University Zerow Solar House / Solar Decathlon Washington D.C.
In September of 2009 Logistics Group International Inc. in a collaborative effort was contracted to arrange the transportation for the Rice University Zerow House. This year Rice University was asked to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon. 20 University’s from around the nation and around the world compete to design, build, and operate the most attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar-powered houses. The competition lasts for three weeks and takes place on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
Logistics Group International was responsible for safe transport of the Rice Zerow house to and from D.C. from Houston, TX. The house was 50’L x 14’W x 12’H and weighed 40,000lbs. The building started it’s journey to D.C. on Friday September 18th after a two year construction process on the campus of Rice University. Once arriving it D.C. the building was unloaded and the Rice students went to work attaching the walkways stairs and finishing touches. After the competition was over LGI loaded it back up and returned it back home to Houston were it was delivered to Project Row Houses in the 3rd Ward, Houston, TX.
