PERMIT LIMITS

ROUTINE ISSUE

The department makes decisions on every vehicle that exceeds the legal limit

A Consortium Permit will not be issued if load exceeds set limits, permittee must apply to each state individually.


PERMITS VALID FOR:
Single trip permits are valid for five (5) consecutive days.

OPERATING TIME
One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

No travel allowed

DIVISIBLE LOADS
Annual permits are issued for loads which could be reduced, in this case manufacturer must certify that the vehicle can pull the weight. Common maximum weight for a 5 axle combination is 104,800 lbs, for a 3 axle straight truck the weight is 76,650 lbs, permits are only issued to overweight vehicle loads not over dimensional loads.

Single trip permits are issued only for non-divisible loads.

EXCEPTIONS
Dozers are considered a non-divisible load, blades, buckets and counterweights do not have to be removed.

INFORMATION NEEDED TO ORDER A WIDE LOAD, OVERSIZE AND HEAVY HAUL PERMITS:
Applicant's name and address, load description, vehicle description, tractor unit, trailer license, trailer length, overall dimensions, total number of axles, overhang front and rear, gross weight, origin and destination routes.

SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
No restrictions.

Overweight, Oversized & Wideload SuperLoads
No stated minimum for super loads. Each trip is reviewed individually to determine whether it is a super load or not, depends on routes, etc. Basic information needed will be axle weights, spacings and routes. Information can be phoned or faxed into the office. Over 200,000 lbs an outside engineering firm must survey the routes. Allow at least 5 days for approval.
