Example: If they have 4 tires at 10" tires with load capacity of 800 lbs per inch, the axle could carry 32,000 lbs (10 x 800 lbs per inch width x 4 tires = 32,000)

Anything over normal limits will require routes and miles traveled and a policeman's name and badge number. If load exceeds any of these dimensions or 180,000 lbs., refer to the section on Super Loads.


PERMITS VALID FOR:
Single trip permits are valid for three (3) days.

OPERATING TIME
Sunrise to sunset, vehicles that have legal dimensions and only overweight may travel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

WEEKEND TRAVEL
Travel allowed on Saturdays until 12:00 noon, no Sunday travel.

DIVISIBLE LOADS
Permits are issued only for oversize and overweight loads which cannot be dismantled or reduced.

EXCEPTIONS
No exceptions.

INFORMATION NEEDED TO ORDER A WIDE LOAD, OVERSIZE AND HEAVY HAUL PERMITS:
License plate numbers of tractor and trailer, overall dimensions of vehicle and load, origin, destination, dates of movement, gross and axle weights.

ESCORTS FOR WIDELOAD AND OVERSIZED SHIPPING

Restricted Travel

Trucks 8'6" wide are prohibited on NJ Route 495 and the Holland Tunnel.

Special hauling permits are not valid on the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway and the Atlantic City Expressway.

A special permit to operate 8'6" wide equipment on the Atlantic City Expressway or the Garden State Parkway south of Exit 105 must be secured from the appropriate authority. The permit cost is $2 for the Atlantic City Expressway and $5 for the Garden State Parkway.

Lincoln Tunnel - No trucks over 8'6" wide allowed on NJ Route 495.

Holland Tunnel - 8'6" wide vehicles are banned from the tunnel.

A trip permit is not valid on the turnpike. Turnpike is restricted to legal vehicles only, no oversize or overweight vehicles are allowed on the turnpike. Turnpike telephone number: 908-247-0900.

SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
No restrictions.

Overweight, Oversized & Wideload SuperLoads
Over 150,000 lbs requires special clearance through DOT. A diagram is required with the axle weights, axle spacings, number of tires and tire size. Anything over routine issue will require a policeman's name and badge number on special clearance.

The permit is valid for 5 days. Applications require 15 business days for processing.
