PERMITS VALID FOR:
Single trip permits are valid for five (5) travel days.

OPERATING TIME
One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

WEEKEND TRAVEL
Travel permitted Saturday and Sunday one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset except during the months of July and August, special restrictions for mobile and modular homes.

DIVISIBLE LOADS
A permit will not be issued if the load is still capable of being reduced

INFORMATION NEEDED TO ORDER A WIDE LOAD, OVERSIZE AND HEAVY HAUL PERMIT
Carriers name and address, owner of towing unit, owner of the load, truck-towing vehicle’s license number, number of axles, registered weight (if mobile home; year, make, serial number and registration number), load description, overall dimensions, total gross weight, origin, destination, routes and object to be moved.

ESCORTS FOR WIDE LOAD & OVERSIZED SHIPPING

When Escorts are Needed:   # Escorts

May require pilot car or police for escorting extreme heights

Restricted Travel

Lewiston and Augusta travel prohibited during inclement weather and during rush hour periods of 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. a local permit is required to travel through Augusta.

Maine turnpike loads limited 13’6” high, 14’6” wide, 207-871-7771

No movement will be made when visibility is poor or the highway is considered dangerous due to rain, snow, slush, ice or any other condition deemed unsafe by the issuing authority or a state police officer. If an excess of seven vehicles are being held up behind the permitted move then the driver of the towing vehicle shall at the first suitable opportunity pull off the highway or as far to the right as is reasonably safe and allow the following traffic to pass.

SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
Restricted to 23,000 lbs or limited weight on certain number of axles for special commodities Maine Department of Transportation issues these exemption certificates, telephone 207-287-2661

Overweight, Oversized & Wideload SuperLoads

Must submit vehicle configuration with axle spacing and weights, loads over 167,000 lbs require special approval, Maine Department of Transportation engineers will check bridges on routes to be requested by applicant to determine if routes are capable of handling the load, if not they will reroute, the permittee will be charged for the engineering fees. Allow 1-3 days for approval
