| A maximum width of 10' is allowed on most toll roads due to physical limitations. A maximum width of 12' is allowed on sections of the toll road system. If load exceeds any of these dimensions or weights, refer to the section on Super Loads. | ||
PERMITS VALID FOR:
Single trip permits are valid for five (5) travel days, ten (10) travel days for a round trip. Following
third permit violation companies can be suspended for one year.
OPERATING TIME
Movement of objects requiring a police and/or civilian escort are limited to the hours of 9:00 a.m.
to 3:00 p.m, Monday through Friday in the following counties: Cook, Dupage, Lake, Kane, Madison,
McHenry, Monroe, St. Clair and Will.
In all other counties, movement is allowed from one half hour before sunrise until one half hour after sunset Monday through Friday and from one-half hour before sunrise until noon on Saturday.
Movement of objects greater than 16 feet wide and/or 17 feet high is restricted to the hours of 9:00 am to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday statewide.
WEEKEND TRAVEL
Travel permitted Saturday until 12:00 noon, no Sunday travel, if only overweight continuous
travel allowed.
DIVISIBLE LOADS
Loads must be reduced to the lowest possible dimensions and/or weight.
EXCEPTIONS
Blades, buckets and counterweights, etc may be attached, if load is over 12’ the widest point
shall be flagged.
INFORMATION NEEDED TO ORDER A PERMIT
Name and address of the applicant, ICC number, load description (including make, model, serial
number) overall dimensions, gross weight, number of axles, front and rear overhang, origin,
destination and routes. If overweight, need axle spacings and weight are needed. If over height
need origin address and destination address.

Restricted Travel
Illinois Toll road (708-241-6800) maximum width 10’ except on sections that carry I-80 & US51 width is 12’.
Contact should be made with the City of Chicago (312-744-4699) regarding permit requirements for movements on all streets and highways within the city other than the expressways. Toll roads 708-241-6800 ext 3823, issued up to 10’ wide, 12’ wide only on I-80 and US route 51, 88,000 lbs gross vehicle weight.

SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
No restrictions.
Overweight, Oversized & Wideload SuperLoads
Anything over 120,000 lbs on 6 axles or over 14’6” wide and 15’ high shall be considered a super load.
Applications must be submitted including axle weight and spacings, loads exceeding 16’ high require a route survey.
Engineering fees of $40 an hour will be charged.
Processing time is 8 working hours if routes have not been approved for that weight configuration. If routes have already been approved, permit will take from a few hours to 2 days.
