Routes are determined by the state and classified by weight.

A "Route Map" can be obtained by calling the Idaho Transportation Department at 208-334-8420. Over 200,000 lbs considered a Super Load.

PERMITS VALID FOR:
Single trip permits are valid for five (5) consecutive days.

OPERATING TIME
One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset, if 10’ wide, 110’ long or 14’6 high or less, travel is allowed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

WEEKEND TRAVEL
Weekend travel is authorized on the majority of routes from one-half hour before sunrise until one-half hour after sunset.

DIVISIBLE LOADS
May get a permit to exceed 80,000 lbs on interstate, but may not exceed legal axle weights and must be registered for amount of weight hauled. An excessive weight permit may be obtained for loads up to 105,500 lbs as long as the load does not exceed legal axle weights, this is for reducible loads only.

EXCEPTIONS
Buckets, blades, etc may be taken off and hauled on the same trailer, it depends on the routes and situation. The state will advise the permittee on a case by case basis.

INFORMATION NEEDED TO ORDER A WIDE LOAD, OVERSIZE AND HEAVY HAUL PERMIT
Applicant’s name and address, load description, vehicle description, tractor unit, trailer license, trailer length, overall dimensions, total number of axles, overhang front and rear, gross weight, origin and destination routes.

-Maximum width of units in convoy limited to 14'6" wide or maximum length of 100' on red or 120' on interstate system or on black-coded routes on map

-Maximum width of units in convoy limited to 12'6" Widths or maximum of 100' length on red-coded routes



Restricted Travel

Must contact local authorities to obtain permission to operate off of the state highway system, if over 12’ wide, 85’ long or 16’ high prohibited from moving between 6:30-8:30 a.m. and 4:00-6:00 p.m. in Boise, Caldwell, Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho Falls, Lewiston, Nampa, Pocatello, Twin Falls, Garden City and Chubbuck.

SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
Routes may be restricted during the spring and speeds may be reduced. Contact the state during the spring for the current restrictions.

Overweight, Oversized & Wideload SuperLoads

Applicant must submit written statement on the necessity and feasibility of the proposed movement. A schematic drawing showing axle placement, distance between axles and distribution of gross weight on axles. Any load over 16’ wide, 16’ high, 120’ long must be approved by the district through which the load is traveling.
