PERMITS VALID FOR:
Single trip movements good for the number of days the applicant specifies (one trip only).
Permits for single trip movements are issued for one, one-way or round trip movement of
over dimension or overweight objects. These permits shall be valid only for the specific
date, time, vehicle and route designated in the permit. Continuous permits shall not be
for more than one year.
OPERATING TIME
As specified in permit, when movements during darkness are allowed or stipulated in the permit
for oversize or overweight vehicles, the lighting and reflectors for such vehicles or loads shall
conform to the requirements of the motor carriers rules of the department governing such matters.
WEEKEND TRAVEL
As specified in permit, movement on Saturdays and Sundays may be permitted at the discretion
of the district engineer.
DIVISIBLE LOADS
Must remove all components to achieve the least dimensions, this includes blades, buckets,
counterweights, booms, etc.
EXCEPTIONS
Loads may be moved with attachments up to 14' wide at permit engineer's discretion.
INFORMATION NEEDED TO ORDER A WIDE LOAD, OVERSIZE AND HEAVY HAUL PERMIT
Applicant's name and address, load description, vehicle description, tractor unit, trailer license, trailer
length, overall dimensions, total number of axles, overhang front and rear, gross weight, origin and
destination routes.

Restricted Travel
Overloaded vehicles are generally restricted to 5 m.p.h. on structures. Stopping on bridges is
prohibited. Moves shall not be made when visibility is unduly impaired by rain, fog, smog or at
any time travel conditions are considered to be unsafe by the department or police. Vehicles shall
not travel in convoys on 2-lane highways when operating with escort vehicles. A separate escort
is required for each load being moved.
Movement shall be made so that the traveled way will remain open for traffic at all times. Provisions
shall be made for continuous movement of opposing traffic and for frequent passing by vehicles
traveling in the same direction. If necessary the vehicle shall be moved away from the traveled
way at frequent intervals to allow traffic to pass.
Vehicles shall not travel upon the highway shoulder except when pulling over to allow following
vehicles to pass.
The department may at any time delay the movement under the permit when they determine that
the traffic, weather or other conditions will create a hazard in the movement.
Movement of oversize or overweight vehicles shall not be permitted on days and during hours when
in the opinion of the district engineer, extremely heavy traffic is expected.

SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
No restrictions.
Overweight, Oversized & Wide Load Super Loads
Applications for overloads in excess of the permit requirements maximum shall be referred to the
Construction and Maintenance Branch for further review with the district engineer's comments
and recommendations. An application for an overweight movement shall be accompanied by
sketches showing plan and elevation of the wheel arrangements, dimensions and distribution of
loads.
Processing an application takes a minimum of 3 weeks when a review by other branches in the
Division is required.
