These weights depend on routes used; if load exceeds any of these dimensions or weights, refer to the section on Super loads.
PERMITS VALID FOR:
Single trip permits are valid for up to five (5) days.
EXTENSION/REVISIONS
May be granted due to inclement weather or vehicle breakdown. The driver of the permitted load
must contact the headquarters permit office (800-350-3765) before the permit expires.
OPERATING TIME
Daylight hours, seven days a week, some night time travel is allowed with certain special lighting
restrictions, except where prohibited. Vehicles and loads overweight only, not exceeding 110,000
allowed continuous travel including holidays. Loads over 14’ wide are prohibited from travel during
the hours of darkness.
WEEKEND TRAVEL
Travel is permitted on Saturday and Sunday; daylight travel is allowed as well as night time travel,
however night time travel has special requirements.
DIVISIBLE LOADS
A load that can be easily reduced by removal of segments must do so; dozer blades must be removed.
EXCEPTIONS
Units having the proper number of axles and do not exceed permit limit weights may haul equipment
with items essential to their operations attached or detached, i.e. dozer, ripper, counterweights, etc.
INFORMATION NEEDED TO ORDER WIDELOAD, OVERSIZE AND HEAVY HAUL PERMITS
Load description, origin, destination, routes, tractor make, VIN number, axle weights, bridge (total
of all spacings), gross weight, number of axles and overall dimensions.
ESCORTS FOR WIDELOAD AND OVERSIZED SHIPPING
****Private escorts must have Colorado safety certificate****
($5 fee for written exam, CO certificate is reciprocal with Virginia, Utah, Florida and Oklahoma)
On height, consult state prior to move. On designated highways; heights up to 14’6” are legal. On
non-designated highways; height limits are 13’. A height pole shall be run by the front escort when
load exceeds 16’ unless otherwise advised by permit. Height poles shall not extend more than 6”
above the maximum height of extra-legal vehicle or load.

SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
No restrictions. *CONTACT STATE FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON RESTRICTED TRAVEL FOR WIDELOADS, OVERSIZED AND OVERWEIGHT PERMITTED CARGO.
Overweight, Oversized & Wideload SuperLoads
Loads which exceed 17’ wide and/or 200,000 lbs gross vehicle weight must submit an application with the following information: diagrams, including axle spacings, weight on each axle, load description, length, width, height and routes desired. There may be additional charges if roads need to be closed.
Allow up to 3 weeks for approval.
