The maximum overall width may be exceeded up to 24’ by permit only when
an emergency exists and then only for short moves based on the degree of such
emergency.
Height:

If overall height exceeds 17', the move must be accompanied by public utilities personnel.

If a load exceeds any of the dimensions or weights, refer to the section on Super Loads.

PERMITS VALID FOR:
Permits are valid for three (3) days.

OPERATING TIME
Permits will normally be issued for movement during daylight hours only as established by the
U.S. Weather Bureau. Permits may be issued for the movement of overweight vehicles on
Arkansas highways on holidays and night time when all dimensions are legal. Loads not
exceeding 90’ long may travel 24 hours, 7 days a week. Loads overweight may only travel
24 hours a day.

WEEKEND TRAVEL
Permits may be issued for movement of over dimensional loads on Arkansas highways on
Saturday and Sunday unless a holiday weekend. Mobile homes are prohibited from moving on
Sundays.

DIVISIBLE LOADS
Permits will not be issued for the movement of any vehicle or piece of equipment which in the
opinion of the State Highway Commission can reasonably be reduced and/or dismantled in
size and/or weight to come within the legal limits.

EXCEPTIONS
Cutter blades and other equipment of a hazardous nature in excess of 14’ wide will be cradled
to such an angle as is necessary to reduce the maximum overall width to 14’.

INFORMATION NEEDED TO ORDER WIDELOAD, OVERSIZE AND HEAVY HAUL PERMITS
Name and address of the applicant, description of the load, make of vehicle, license number of
vehicle, state in which vehicle is registered, total number of axles, gross weight (including steering
axle), maximum width, length, height, front overhang, origin, destination, routes and dates
movement is requested.

NOTE: Maximum width for highway movement usually allowed is 20' (based on Routes, distance and traffic volume or type.)

Restricted Travel
Movement is prohibited during inclement weather when in the opinion of the issuing agency conditions prevail which would make the movement unsafe.

Secondary highways are restricted to 40 m.p.h. and may be posted for a lesser weight.

No oversize movement through the greater Little Rock area from 7:00-9:00 A.M. and 4:00-6:00 P.M. on Interstate 30 - M.M. 137-143, Interstate 40-M.M. 151-155 and all of Interstate 630.

No over width vehicle shall follow another over width vehicle closer than 1,000'.

SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
No restrictions.

Overweight, Oversized & Wideload SuperLoads

Applications for permits to move extra heavy loads of any sort will be submitted in triplicate along with a detailed sketch of vehicles including all tire sizes, distance between axles and overall length of the vehicle. If load exceeds 17' high must be escorted by public utilities personnel. This application should be submitted at least 2 days in advance of the expected movement.
